Trudeau to increase Canada Child Benefit

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a one-time increase to the Canada Child Benefit (CCB).  The additional funding is to help parents deal with COVID19.
“Parents already know how much the Canada Child Benefit helps with the cost of raising kids,” Trudeau said.  The increase amounts to $300/ child for the month of May.  Overall the Trudeau government says it will amount to a total of $32 billion.  The CCB was first started in 2016 as a tax-free benefit.
The Liberals are also providing more funding for counselling services serving Children and youth.  The government will provide an additional $7.5 million to Kids Help Phone in order to help with the increased demand caused by reduced access to community supports.
