Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced the appointment of the Honourable Bob Rae as Canada’s next Ambassador to the United Nations. Rae will take over the post from Marc-André Blanchard.
“Bob Rae has dedicated his life to serving Canadians and our country, and his experience and thoughtful approach will serve us well in this new role as our Ambassador to the United Nations,” Trudeau said. Blanchard announced his resignation earlier this year, after a four year term.
Rae served as Canada’s Special Envoy on Humanitarian and Refugee Issues, as well as Canada’s special Envoy to Myanmar. He is a former Premier of Ontario, as well as a Chancellor at Wilfrid Laurier University.
