Traffic complaint leads to arrest

On June 2, 2023, at approximately 2:25 a.m., the Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a traffic complaint on Highway 401 in the Chatham-Kent area.

Essex County OPP officers located the vehicle abandoned on the shoulder of Highway 401 Westbound East of Provincial Road. OPP Emergency Response Team members and OPP K9 with General Service Dog Maximus began tracking the individual.

Members from Windsor Police Service Patrol and WPS Emergency Services Unit engaged to assist with attempting to locate the individual.

OPP K9 along with WPS members located the individual in a building in the 4000 block of County Road 46, Tecumseh, Ontario.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old of Brampton was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin) CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on July 28, to face the charges. The custody of the accused was transferred to Canadian Border Services Agency where they face outstanding warrants.
