A 24‑year‑old Tilbury man has been arrested following two break‑and‑enter incidents that caused an estimated $260,000 in damage at a business on Industrial Park Road, Chatham‑Kent police say.

The thefts occurred during the week of Jan. 5, when copper wire was stolen on two separate occasions. Police say the suspect caused extensive damage to equipment housing the wire, leading to significant repair costs for the business.

Members of the Chatham‑Kent Police Service Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a Tilbury residence on Jan. 9. Officers arrested the man and recovered copper wire and equipment belonging to the business.

He is charged with two counts of break and enter, possession of property under $5,000 and mischief over $5,000. Police transported him to the South West Detention Centre, where he will remain in custody until his next video court appearance on Jan. 12.

Police say copper wire thefts continue to pose risks to businesses and critical infrastructure across the region. Anyone with information is asked to contact Chatham‑Kent police at 519‑352‑1234 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑TIPS (8477).
