Local Women’s Group Donates to WRH

Babies in the NICU at Windsor Regional Hospital are feeling the love from the Fogolar Furlan’s Women’s Association (FFWA). Recently, handmade incubator covers were donated by the Association to the Family Birthing Unit.

The Association’s Sewing Group meets regularly to sew blankets, incubator covers, bibs for cancer patients, and to knit and crochet blankets and hats for a variety of groups in our community.

“We are so grateful for this extremely generous donation to support our patients and assist our nursing staff to deliver outstanding care to newborns,” said Devon Lanspeary, manager, Family Birthing Centre. “The incubator covers are invaluable and an essential resource in helping to keep premature babies warm.”

With the support of both the Fogolar Furlan Club and the community, the Women’s Association assists and donates funds to charitable and non-profit organizations or causes.

“Donating these items is one way we celebrate children and families in Windsor-Essex,” says Diane Bortolin, president of the FFWA.

“Since the Women’s Association inception in 1983, the members have focused on supporting women and families through donations to various charities across the city including Hôtel-Dieu Healthcare, Welcome Centre Shelter for Women, Autism Ontario, Hiatus House, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Home to name a few.”

The FFWA will continue to sew incubator covers for Windsor Regional Hospital to benefit the community-at-large.

The FFWA is a non-profit organization that provides recreational, cultural, entertainment, fraternal and educational programs for its members and their families, to keep the traditions and heritage of the Friuli region alive and well in Windsor and Essex County.

Any female at least 19 years of age who is of Italian origin or a descendant or a spouse of an Italian can join the Women’s Association, which strives to celebrate the accomplishments of their Friuli ancestors in Windsor.
