Halton Police Board has full confidence in Chief Stephen Tanner. The decision was announced in a statement released earlier this afternoon.
“The board has full and unequivocal confidence in Chief Stephen Tanner to remain Halton Regional Police Service Chief,” they said. The board came to this decision following multiple meetings to discuss Tanner’s trip to Florida over Christmas for what has been described as “property related reasons.
Tanner has released a statement apologizing for taking the trip. “Regardless of the personal property related reasons for which I travelled recently, or the permission that I sought and obtained for that travel, I am remorseful for that decision,” Tanner said. Former Board Chair, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton approved the decision. He has since been replaced by Oakville Regional Councillor Jeff Knoll.
“I look forward to continuing my service and to providing leadership to our community and to our police service members to the very best of my ability throughout the years to come,” Tanner said.
