The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 147 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Man charged with robbery
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a disturbance at a motel in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that while holding scissors in a threatening manner, the man stole three (3) laptops and a cell phone from the staff’s office.
Officers located the man outside, and he was taken into custody. The property was recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
The 24-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with robbery and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released pending a future court date of February 22, 2022.
Traffic stop leads to arrest
Last night, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Sandys Street in Chatham, where the man falsely identified himself to the officer. Through investigation, police confirmed the man’s true identity and learned that he was currently wanted on two outstanding warrants.
The 34-year-old Chatham man was arrested and additionally charged with obstructing police and failing to comply with his curfew. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Disturbance leads to charges
Last night, police responded to a disturbance in Chatham between a man and woman, who were both on conditions not to communicate with each other.
The 25-year-old man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions. The 25-year-old woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions. Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Traffic enforcement
Yesterday, police monitored traffic in the area of Paxton Drive and Orangewood Boulevard in Chatham. Several vehicles were observed travelling through the area, with no infractions observed.
