The Tilbury Firefighters Association hosted its 3rd Annual Fundraising Dinner at Ryder Hall. With 190 people in attendance, the event was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and the support of the community.
The evening featured a catered dinner by Double O Catering, offering a menu that included chicken and ribs. Entertainment was provided by Those Guys, whose rock ‘n’ roll music kept the crowd dancing.
For the Tilbury Firefighters, the banquet is more than just dinner and games—it’s a celebration of their hard work and dedication over the past year and an opportunity to reflect on the contributions that make their work possible.
“Having a successful fundraising dinner like this wouldn’t be possible without the community’s generosity,” said Capt. Mitch Postma. “The money we raise here allows us to continue giving back through events we host throughout the year.”
“The banquet is a chance for us to connect with the community,” said firefighter Ray Mailloux. “The generous donations from local businesses, families, and other service clubs help us provide amazing prizes and entertainment. But the real stars of the evening are the people who attend—they truly make it special.”
This annual event plays a key role in funding the Tilbury Firefighters Association. The money raised supports community initiatives, such as local food banks, BIA activities, and small investments in fire equipment and gear for the halls and trucks.
Over the past year, the association has been involved in numerous initiatives, including meet-and-greets, fundraisers, and community events. Mailloux said his favourite memory was the 2nd Annual Halloween Meet-a-Firefighter event, where families explore the trucks, try on gear, and learn about fire safety. In return, attendees come in Halloween costumes. “Kids leave with a pumpkin, loads of candy, and usually a big smile,” Mailloux said.
Capt. Postma’s favourite moment of the year was seeing the entire community come together at the fundraising dinner, enjoying conversation and laughter.
Looking ahead to the next year, Capt. Postma emphasized the association’s commitment to remaining active in the community. “We plan to add a few new events, including an open house in the spring,” he said. “This year has been busy for many of our members, but we’re looking forward to being even more involved in 2025. Look for us at the Tilbury Canada Day fireworks and our annual Halloween Open House.”
Mailloux noted that, while the association accomplished a lot in 2024, there were still goals left unmet. “This year was busy for a lot of our members with school, work, or family commitments,” he said. “But in 2025, we plan to shake things up to better fit our members’ lifestyles. It’s going to be an exciting year.”
The 3rd Annual Fundraiser was a night of celebration and gratitude—for the firefighters who tirelessly serve Tilbury and the community that supports them. Mailloux encourages anyone interested in supporting the association to get involved. “If you have ideas for community-based initiatives or need assistance with an event, feel free to reach out,” he said. “Follow us on social media and attend any of our upcoming events.”
