Budget 2022: We Knew It Was Coming

Councils in Milton have been in general known to sell a piece of their soul to keep taxes low.  In a way you can’t blame them, because really… who likes paying high taxes? Nobody.
There have been warning signs that low taxes would need to come to an end.  In 2017 when a Staff presentation predicted a tax increase as high as $500/100,000 by 2036 because businesses were being outpaced by residential growth.
The budgets since then haven’t borne this out, mainly because Derry Green is shifting part of the burden back onto businesses.  But what they have shown, is  there is nowhere else to cut in the quest for low taxes.  Staff for the last few years have presented budgets with very similar recommendations to cut.  The Rotary Park Pool, at least part of the Milton Community Fund (or the whole thing)
