POLICE BLOTTER: Collisions, arrests and 307 calls mark a hectic day for Chatham‑Kent police

Chatham-Kent police responded to 307 calls for service over a 24‑hour period this week, including 88 emergency 911 calls, 25 reportable incidents and six arrests.

 

A 16‑year‑old Chatham youth turned himself in on Jan. 14 in connection with a March 2025 incident in which a woman reported being bear‑maced near Queen and William streets. The teen had previously been charged and released but failed to attend a scheduled court date, prompting a warrant. He was released again with a Feb. 18 court date and faces charges of assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance and failing to comply with an undertaking.

 

Later that night, officers were called to a disturbance on King Street East, where a 19‑year‑old woman refused to leave her boyfriend’s home. Police said no threats or assaults occurred, but the woman was arrested for breach of the peace and released to a family member.

 

Police also reported six motor‑vehicle collisions and 10 additional calls involving vehicles leaving the roadway between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Drivers were urged to slow down, leave early and use headlights during winter conditions.

 

A 41‑year‑old Harwich Township man was arrested Jan. 13 in Blenheim after police investigated a historical intimate partner assault reported to have occurred on Oct. 31, 2025. Officers said additional past incidents involving injuries were uncovered. The man was charged with assault and released with conditions and a Feb. 23 court date.

 

Two Chatham women, aged 54 and 28, were arrested Jan. 13 after loss‑prevention staff reported they were concealing merchandise at a St. Clair Street store. All items were recovered. Both were charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. The older woman was held for bail; the younger was released with conditions.

 

A 34‑year‑old Chatham-Kent man was arrested after attending a Grand Avenue West medical facility without a valid appointment, breaching a probation order that restricted his access. He was held for bail.

 

On Jan. 12, a 30‑year‑old Walpole Island man was arrested after allegedly opening and consuming alcohol inside a St. Clair Street business, then returning to steal merchandise. He was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property and held for bail.

 

A 32‑year‑old Tilbury woman was arrested Jan. 12 after a domestic dispute earlier in the month escalated into assault and forcible confinement. She was released with conditions and a Feb. 23 court date.

 

A 39‑year‑old Chatham-Kent man was charged with trespassing after allegedly yelling, throwing items and refusing to leave a Grand Avenue business late Jan. 12. He was issued a Provincial Offences Notice.

 

A 30‑year‑old Harwich Township woman was arrested Jan. 12 on a warrant related to a March 2025 incident in which stones were thrown at a parked vehicle on Wellington Street. She was released with conditions and a Feb. 9 court date.

 

A 28‑year‑old Tupperville man was charged with assault causing bodily harm (choking) and assault after police investigated multiple intimate partner violence incidents between 2024 and 2026 involving a Chatham woman. He was released with conditions and a Feb. 17 court date.

 

A 28‑year‑old Chatham-Kent man was arrested Jan. 9 after allegedly assaulting a loss‑prevention officer and making threats at a St. Clair Street store. He was charged with two counts of assault and uttering threats and released with conditions.

 

A 57‑year‑old Orford Township man was arrested Jan. 9 after refusing to comply with a roadside breath demand following a disturbance at a St. Clair Street restaurant. He was charged with refusal and being intoxicated in a public place and released with a Jan. 20 court date.

 

A 39‑year‑old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving and operating over 80 mg after allegedly striking a vehicle at a red light on Grand Avenue East and fleeing the scene. Police later located him on Schooner Court.

 

A 26‑year‑old Harwich Township man was arrested Jan. 10 after repeatedly attending a woman’s home despite being told not to, and after police uncovered a previous assault from August 2025. He was held for bail.

 

A 43‑year‑old Walpole Island woman was arrested by OPP in Petrolia on Jan. 11 on a Chatham-Kent warrant for failing to attend court related to an obstruction charge.

 

A 53‑year‑old Chatham-Kent man was arrested Jan. 11 after allegedly threatening and assaulting a youth at a Raleigh Street residence. The victim required EMS due to difficulty breathing. The man was released with a Feb. 12 court date.

 

A 61‑year‑old Comber woman was charged with impaired driving after calling 911 to report she had driven off Morris Line and into a bush. She was taken to hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries and later released with conditions and a Jan. 28 court date.

 

Police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and remain cautious on winter roads.
