The Municipality of Lakeshore has declared a Significant Weather Event as a strong winter storm continues to move through the region, bringing heavy snowfall, blowing winds, and hazardous travel conditions across Comber, Lighthouse Cove, Stoney Point, and surrounding communities.
Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning, forecasting up to 20 centimetres of snow throughout the day. Visibility remains low in many areas, and road conditions continue to deteriorate as the storm intensifies.
Municipal officials are urging residents to avoid all non‑essential travel until conditions improve.
During the Significant Weather Event, Lakeshore crews will continue working around the clock to maintain road safety. Snow clearing efforts will prioritize main and emergency routes, while secondary roads, sidewalks, and municipal parking lots may take longer than usual to be cleared due to the severity of the storm.
“During this time, we ask that if residents do need to travel that they do so safely and cautiously. We continue to monitor conditions, and we appreciate all our staff who are responding to help keep Lakeshore safe,” said Krystal Kalbol, Lakeshore’s Executive Director of Engineering Services.
The declaration of a Significant Weather Event is defined under Ontario Regulation 239/02, allowing municipalities to alert the public when weather conditions make it difficult to meet standard road maintenance timelines. The declaration will remain in effect until further notice.
Once the Significant Weather Event has ended, Lakeshore will issue an update through local media, its website, and social media channels.
