The spirit of giving is alive and well in Tilbury this holiday season, as thousands of food and toy donations were collected from local businesses and schools to support families in need.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Tilbury Area Public School, St. Joseph Catholic School, École Saint-Francis, Centennial Central Public School, and Tilbury District High School for hosting food drives. Students from these schools went above and beyond in gathering donations, contributing significantly to the success of this year’s campaign.
More than 120 hampers filled with food and toys were delivered to families in Tilbury, Comber, and Stoney Point. The initiative was organized by the Tilbury Goodfellows, a group that has been supporting the less fortunate in the community for over 70 years.
Joe Faubert, a Tilbury Goodfellows volunteer, praised the involvement of local youth in this year’s campaign. “We had a wonderful collection from the schools this year. It’s so nice seeing the youth of our community getting involved!” he said.
Dan Taylor, chair of the Tilbury Goodfellows, expressed gratitude for the community’s generosity. “The community was generous with their donations to help us fulfill all the baskets for the people that need it,” he said.
Volunteer Randy Simpson echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the success of this year’s campaign. “The 2024 Tilbury Goodfellow campaign has been a great success. The generous donations from the community have helped out tremendously. We are able to help out many families this year, and let’s hope that this kind of generosity continues for many years to come so that we could help those in need!”
The Tilbury Goodfellows thanked everyone who contributed to the campaign, underscoring their mission of ensuring that no child goes without at Christmas time.
