Who will you walk for?

By: Matt Weingarden, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, Tilbury Times Reporter

The annual Walk for Parkinson’s takes place on September 7th and 8th at 14 different locations across southwestern Ontario, including Windsor’s Walk on September 8, at Malden Park, registration 12 p.m. and Walk starts at 1pm, and Chatham’s Walk on September 8, at Kingston Park, registration 12 p.m. and Walk at 1p.m.

Walk for Parkinson’s, featuring over 1,000 participants, is an opportunity for the community to come together to support those impacted by Parkinson’s disease in our region. Locally around 200 are registered to participate.

“All funds raised stay local and support people in our own community,” said Samantha Grant, organizer of the event. “Funds raised this year will help a speech and language pathology program called Louder/Clearer for our clients, as well as three different exercise programs.”

Walk for Parkinson’s is the premier fundraising event supporting people with Parkinson’s and their families in Southwestern Ontario.

Residents are encouraged to come for the walk, stay for the fun, including food, music, refreshments, and enjoy time with friends, family and others fighting back against Parkinson’s disease.

Together, the Southwestern Ontario PD community has raised over $7.2 million to continue the work of providing support services, education, advocacy and research!

“Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological disorder, and has surpassed diseases like Dementia and Alzheimer’s,” said Grant. “We hold events like this to provide information to the community, long-term care and retirement homes and to provide education. We are going to be seeing more clients and we need to let people know that there is assistance available out there,”

To participate, simply register online and plan to attend your nearest walk location!
