Police Blotter: Crime wave hits Chatham-Kent: multiple arrests made

A series of crimes rocked Chatham-Kent, including a break-and-enter in Thamesville where a 43-year-old man was caught in the act and found with drugs. In Chatham, arrests were made for public intoxication, theft, and assault, while a Wallaceburg man was arrested for assaulting a woman. An arson investigation led to the arrest of a Chatham woman, and two women were charged with drug and weapon offences after a raid.

WOMEN ARRESTED FOR DRUG, WEAPON OFFENSES

Chatham-Kent Police, alongside the Critical Incident Response Team, executed a search warrant on King Street East in Chatham as part of a drug trafficking investigation. The raid led to the seizure of approximately $1,200 worth of fentanyl, a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, and various drug-related items, including digital scales and packing materials.

Two women, aged 31 and 28, were arrested at the scene. The 31-year-old faces charges of possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failing to comply with a release order. The 28-year-old faces similar charges, including possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to prohibition orders. Both women are being held pending a bail hearing.

BREAK AND ENTER IN THAMESVILLE

Police swiftly responded to an alarm at a business on London Road in Thamesville, where the owner remotely witnessed intruders breaking in. Officers arrived and apprehended a 43-year-old Chatham man inside the premises. He was charged with break-and-enter and possession of a controlled substance and is being held pending a bail hearing.

MAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION

In Chatham, police observed a 29-year-old man acting aggressively on Queen Street, punching a vehicle’s window. The man attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. He was arrested for mischief and public intoxication and released with a future court date.

MAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT

Police were called to a retail business on St. Clair Street, Chatham, where a man stole two merchandise carts. The suspect, a 40-year-old Wallaceburg man, was stopped on Highway 40 and arrested after providing a false name. He faces charges of theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing police, and drug possession. A 41-year-old female passenger was also arrested for operating a vehicle while prohibited.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT

A 32-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested after assaulting a woman on Taylor Avenue, Chatham, and damaging her property. He was charged with assault, failing to comply with a release order and mischief.

ARSON INVESTIGATION IN CHATHAM

A 30-year-old Chatham woman was arrested for arson after emergency crews responded to a structure fire on McNaughton Avenue East. She faces arson disregard for human life charges and is held pending a bail hearing. The investigation continues.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT

A 29-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested for pushing a man downstairs during an argument on Montgomery Drive. She faces charges of mischief and assault and was released with conditions and a future court date.

MAN ARRESTED FOR THEFT

Police responded to a suspicious vehicle on Thames Street, Chatham, and discovered it had been stolen from Windsor. After a brief chase, the 28-year-old Ontario man occupant of the vehicle was arrested. He faces charges of possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. Further charges may follow.
