It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Mario Onorato, who earned his heavenly reward on Thursday, October 16, 2025. After carrying the sorrow of losing his beloved son, Salvatore, Mario is now reunited with him in heaven, alongside his dear beloved wife Vincenza.
Mario was born in Ponza, Latina, Italy, on April 23, 1938. Affectionately known as “Bro Mario” to the brothers and sisters of The Church of Jesus Christ, where he was a faithful member and served as a Deacon for 54 years. He was also a dedicated volunteer at the Downtown Windsor Mission until illness prevented him from continuing in 2020.
Devoted father of Daniel (late Joy), Rachel (Jim), Sarah (Timothy), and father-in-law of Stephania (Tony). Cherished nonno to his wonderful grandchildren; Damian, Vincenzo (Samantha), Sabrina, Angelina, Andrew (Caitlyn), Stevie (Lacee), and Ava. Dear brother of Marisa and the late Villa. Loved by many nieces and nephews. Mario will also be deeply missed by Isabelle, Candace, Mercedes, and Sonya. He is predeceased by his parents Vittorio and Vigilia Onorato.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County for their exceptional care and compassion.
On October 23 and 24, 2025, family and friends gathered at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Central Chapel to honor the life of Mario Onorato. Visitation was held on Thursday in two sessions, from 3-5 p.m. and again from 7-9 p.m., offering loved ones a chance to pay their respects and share memories. The funeral service took place the following morning, Friday, October 24, at 11 a.m., followed by a burial at Windsor Memorial Gardens. The ceremonies reflected the deep love and admiration felt for Mario, whose legacy continues to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Donations in Mario’s memory may be made to the Windsor Downtown Mission.
